APPRENTICESHIP IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
IT Practitioners
If you are interested in the hardware systems side of IT, then this course is for you. It includes all aspects of support, fault finding, configuration, repair and introductory networking. The course will enable you to begin a career in ICT support.
This course is for individuals who:
- are interested in providing customers with IT support
- are interested in a job installing IT hardware and software
- are interested in a job developing and maintaining IT systems and networks
- who love a challenge and enjoy solving problems
- have good communication skills
- enjoy team work
When you join the training course you will complete an intensive 5 week training programme covering computer theory and practical skills and this will help you on your way to becoming an IT expert user and increase your confidence in IT. After this you will receive on the job training either within a training area at the ITeC or with an employer. This will enable you to collect evidence from your workplace for your NVQ portfolio and will prove you are capable of doing the job.
In addition to the NVQ you will also work towards Key Skills at the appropriate level. These are skills that are essential in any career path. On all courses you will follow a nationally recognised training and development path which is set by the National Training Organisation for your Apprenticeship framework.
Once you have completed your NVQ L2 IT Practitioner you will have the opportunity to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship where you will work toward your NVQ L3 - IT Professional and a technical certificate. This is currently the BTeC National Award for IT Practitioners -ICT Support.
Key Skills
All learners receive training in Key Skills, up to level 2 which includes Communication and Application of Number. Training is delivered on a day release where candidates produce a portfolio of evidence to meet the standards of the OCR Awarding Body.
The course is designed to be demanding and challenging, and requires a high degree of commitment from candidates.
