NVQ Level 1 in Hospitality
This qualification is intended for people who work in the catering and hospitality sector in any role up to supervisory level. Learners demonstrate skills and ability through units grouped to suit their own occupational area. These units cover the wide range of skills required to work in the catering and hospitality industry. The national occupational standards have been developed in conjunction with industry to ensure input from across the sector.
At level 1 there is one NVQ qualification in catering and Hospitality with six routes:
- Food Preparation and cooking
- Multi-skilled Hospitality Service
- Food and Drink Service
- Front Office
- Housekeeping
- Quick Service
NVQ Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality
This qualification is intended for people who work in the catering and hospitality sector in any role up to supervisory level. Learners demonstrate skills and ability through units grouped to suit their own occupational area. These units cover the wide range of skills required to work in the hospitality industry. There is a wide range of optional units for multi skilled staff.
New food safety units have been developed in conjunction with the food standards agency and a unit covering healthier options has also been developed in line with current government initiatives.
At level 2 (Apprenticeship) there is one NVQ qualification in Catering and Hospitality with nine routes:
- Food Processing and cooking
- Multi-skilled Hospitality Service
- Food and Drink Service
- Food and Drink Service (Food Service Only)
- Food and Drink Service (Drink Service Only)
- Professional Cookery (Preparation and Cooking)
- Professional Cookery
- Front Office
- Housekeeping
Including the NVQ, you can also gain certificates in: Food & Hygiene, Health & Safety, ARAR ( Bar Person ), and First Aid.
Key Skills
In addition to the NVQ you will also work towards Key Skills at the appropriate level. These are skills that are essential in any career path. On all courses you will follow a nationally recognised training and development path which is set by the National Training Organisation for your Apprenticeship framework. All learners receive training in Key Skills, up to level 2 which includes Communication and Application of Number. Training is delivered on a day release where candidates produce a portfolio of evidence to meet the standards of the OCR Awarding Body.
The course is designed to be demanding and challenging, and requires a high degree of commitment from candidates.
